Test Yourself: UTIs
July 12, 2019
It’s very common that older people get UTIs or Urinary Tract Infections. For those with dementia, these infections can cause behavioral changes and even violent outbursts. Both age and dementia can make traveling to a clinic or hospital difficult and uncomfortable. Luckily, there’s an option. Instead of making the drive to the clinic and waiting hours for results, there are test strips you can get at the pharmacy. The test strip simply needs to be submerged in the person’s urine, the color will change to denote infection level, and a photo sent to the doctor can be enough proof for a diagnosis and prescription. There are so many simple ways in which technology can make life easier.
At YDST, we find inspiration everywhere. We lived this experience and then it was echoed back to us by a blog written by Rachelle Khalaf. If you want to learn more about being a caregiver, be sure to check out her blog.
