Tip Your Waitstaff
June 14, 2019
Tip your waiter, no matter the service. Depending on your state, waitstaff can be paid as little as $2.13 per hour. For those states where waitstaff are paid the cash minimum wage of $2.13 an hour, staff must earn enough tips so they average federal minimum wage of $7.25 per hour. If they don’t, their employer must make up the difference. Your tips matter. Your tips ensure waitstaff can pay their rent, especially today when there’s no county in the U.S. where a minimum wage worker can afford a two bedroom apartment.
Bonus tip: If your meal is comped or your server removes the cost of a dish that was disliked, you should tip on what the full amount the bill would have been. Those dollars go straight to the waitstaff. Thank you Marene G. for inspiring this tip and inspiring all of us here at YDST!
