Turn Off Bluetooth
June 18, 2019
If you’re not using Bluetooth, turn it off. While you’re wandering through the many stores, you’re being tracked by secret Bluetooth beacons. These beacons might be used to send you a coupon or simply collect information about your movements through the store. How it works: a beacon connected to your phone via Bluetooth and permission from an app you’ve downloaded. The app might be proprietary to the store (Think Target’s app) or through an innocuous weather app you downloaded to tell you when to carry an umbrella. Bluetooth is accurate within feet and often even within inches. The data collected by these Bluetooth beacons is gathered by companies to better target advertisements and marketing. So, if you want to keep your movements and information to yourself, turn off your Bluetooth. You should also switch off Location Services when not in use and deny location-tracking to any app that doesn’t need it.
